Physicians Often Underestimate, Undertreat Asthma

KEY POINT

In patients whose asthmatic symptoms are not relieved by prescribed therapy, consider whether physicians have underestimated disease severity and/or frequency of symptoms. Underestimating disease severity leads to undertreatment of the condition through prescribing based on an incorrect classification rather than symptoms.
