Improved Glycemic Control: Immediate Impact on Health Care Costs

Helping patients to improve their control of diabetes reduces health care costs within 1 to 2 years, a new study shows. The findings run counter to expectations created by the Diabetes Control and Complications Trial, which led health care administrators to conclude that improved glycemic control was likely to yield benefits only years later— when, the managers tend to assume, the patient would not likely be covered under the same health plan.
