Metformin more efficacious than newer agents for type 2 diabetes

KEY POINT

In a recent review, researchers concluded that metformin should be the first-line treatment for type 2 diabetes. When compared with metformin, most two-drug regimens similarly decreased glycosylated hemoglobin (A1C) levels but were associated with an increased risk of hypoglycemia and other adverse events.
