Type 1 DM: Glycemic control has long-term benefits

KEY POINT

In a long-term follow-up to the Diabetes Control and Complications Trial (DCCT), 1,441 patients with type 1 diabetes treated originally with intensive therapy had a 42% reduction in risk of cardiovascular events during a mean of 17 years of monitoring.
