Vitamin E Fails to Affect Outcomes in Patients with Diabetes

KEY POINT

Cardiovascular outcomes, microvascular complications, and glycemic control were not significantly altered by daily administration of vitamin E 400 IU. Data from the Heart Outcomes Prevention Evaluation (HOPE) trial and the Microalbuminuria Cardiovascular Renal Outcomes (MICRO-HOPE) substudy fail to support use of the supplement in patients with type 1 or type 2 diabetes mellitus.
