Good to the last drop: Low-volume PEG solutions work well, better tolerated than high-volume preps

KEY POINT

A low-volume regimen of polyethylene glycol 3350 (PEG-3350, Miralax—Merck)/Gatorade was as safe and effective and better tolerated than the traditional high-volume polyethylene glycol electrolyte solution (PEG-ES, Golytely or Nulytely—Braintree) for bowel preparation prior to colonoscopy, according to a recent study. For both regimens, bowel cleansing was better when doses were split between the evening before and morning of the colonoscopy than when administered as a complete dose in the evening.
