Could Etoposide Be Lifesaving in Patients with Avian Influenza?

KEY POINT

In an article recently published in Lancet, researchers hypothesized that etoposide plus dexamethasone— given along with antiviral and supportive therapies—may be an effective treatment for patients with severe avian influenza (H5N1) infection complicated by secondary hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (HLH).
