Short-course antibiotics effective for intra-abdominal infections

KEY POINT

A 4-day course of antibiotics was shown to be just as effective as a longer course of treatment in patients with complicated intra-abdominal infections who had undergone adequate source control, according to results from the STOP–IT (Study to Optimize Peritoneal Infection Therapy) trial published in New England Journal of Medicine.
