Statins beneficial for most patients with chronic kidney disease

KEY POINT

A comparison of the American College of Cardiology (ACC)/American Heart Association (AHA) and Kidney Disease Improving Global Outcomes (KDIGO) lipid guidelines revealed that both support the use of statin therapy for the majority of adults 50 years of age and older with predialysis chronic kidney disease (CKD); however, trial data show that only 50% of eligible patients with CKD are receiving statins.
