Effective treatment for early-stage COPD

KEY POINT

Use of once-daily tiotropium (Spiriva—Boehringer Ingelheim) in patients with mild to moderate COPD resulted in higher lung function measures (i.e., forced expiratory volume in 1 second [FEV1]) and less annual decline in lung function compared with placebo, according to results of a study published in the New England Journal of Medicine.
